Disability in Society

General Glossary

Stereotypes: are ideas (Assumed characteristics) held about members of particular groups. They are often used in a negative or prejudicial sense for example, let’s consider the disabled; to assume, as some do, that all disabled people are also intellectually handicapped is of course not true but is assumed to be true by some people. This would be considered a stereotype.
