Research

In 2006, the Association consolidated its commitment to research with the appointment of a part-time Director of Research, Professor Tanya Packer.  Tanya is also Director of the Centre for Research into Disability and Society at Curtin University. Five major research projects are currently being undertaken or have been completed:

Living effectively: Self Management Groups via the Internet

A collaboration between Curtin University, Cerebral Palsy Association, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Parkinson’s Foundation, Volda University Norway and the Association for the Blind of WA, funded by Lotterywest.

Physical Activity Study of Children and Adolescents with Disabilities

A collaboration between Curtin University, Rocky Bay, Autism Association, Therapy Focus and the Association for the Blind of WA, funded by Lotterywest.

Refinement, Expansion and Linkage of the Association’s Data Base

A collaboration between Lions Eye Institute, School of Population Health UWA, Curtin University, Western Australian Institute for Medical Research, and the Association for the Blind of WA.

Survey of Mobility Skills of School Aged Children

Funded by the Australian Government Literacy, Numeracy and Special Needs Program for Children with Disabilities.

The Development and Evaluation of a Self-management Intervention

Focused on older adults with age-related vision loss.
